Hello! My name is Jennifer Allevato and I am a painter who works in acrylics, gouache, watercolor, and mixed media. I draw inspiration from nature, travel, memories of childhood, and my Christian faith.
Inspired by post-impressionism with a focus on color and line over realism, my subject matter varies from flowers to fashion to still lives and interiors. My pieces tend to have an inherent softness and stillness about them; a quiet moment in a loud and busy world. While I consider myself first a painter, I am not afraid to use whatever medium I feel is best for capturing a piece, often incorporating and layering graphite, paper, and wax crayon with the paint.
I have a B.A. in Studio Art (Painting & Drawing) from West Virginia Wesleyan College and an M.F.A. in Costume Design from The University of North Carolina School of the Arts. In college I also spent a semester abroad in Florence, Italy studying art at the Scuola Lorenzo de’ Medici.
My art and design work have been shown in both the U.S. and abroad. I currently live and work in Alexandria, Virginia with my husband and our two cats.
