Excerpts From My Journal, 2009-2010, as Told in Words and Pictures, 24"x36"

"Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter. The sitter is merely the accident, the occasion. It is not he who is revealed by the painter; it is rather the painter who, on the coloured canvas, reveals himself.” -Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray.

While I consider myself first a painter, I use whatever medium I feel is best for capturing a piece, often incorporating and layering graphite, paper, and paint. I use idealized color and often just suggestions of objects. I like to capture the idea of a flower, object, or space without being concerned with precision: my hand and mark is all over my work.
