I am so happy to share my new Local House-Scapes Collection with you!
Pictures of Home
This collection of paintings is inspired by historical houses in the local Alexandria, Virginia area. I focused on color and nostalgia, giving the homes a feeling of warmth and familiarity.
Just outside of Washington, D.C., the area was originally founded in 1749, and many of the original historic buildings remain, making the streets full of beautiful homes and shops that are just pure eye-candy. You can read more about the town here.
That's What I Call Home
While based on specific local houses, I improvised with color, landscaping, and details to make them each unique stand-alone houses with a universal feel of home.
I started working on these pieces during my last stint at the Torpedo Factory in September and finished them right before Art on the Avenue in October.
These paintings were so fun and are really special to me, and I hope you feel a fun sense of warmth, home, and love when you look at them, too.

Recently I visited the house and gardens at Dumbarton Oaks, an historic estate hidden away in residential Georgetown in Washington, D.C. I was awe-struck by the grounds, so tree-covered among the hills that you forget you're not in the middle of the countryside!

I took several weeks in June and July and experimented with acrylics on raw canvas for the first time. I mostly work on wooden panel and paper in my current practice, and it's been years since I worked on canvas.
